Sentimental Old Queen
It's the midnight hour and I'm sitting here getting work done on the site, jamming to my iPod, as usual. So much Stevie Nicks and so much Tori Amos. I am lucky my mom and my readers like them both so much because everyone else in my life is damned tired of hearing about them.
You know why I think I relate so much to these two? Besides the fact that they have that whole "midnight music" vibe with their "witchy ways" and the intricate weaving of their spiritualities into their work, another thing these two have in common is that they are the quintessential queens of the sentimental.
Think about it, how many times do these bitches reflect on the past?
Hell, Stevie's still writing songs about her high school sweetheart! Not that I have any room to talk. I still think of mine at the very least once a month. But then, I am 27 and she is 58.
It is ridiculous though how many times in my day I stroll down memory lane. And this is not a quality I have any desire to change anytime soon. I like my memories. My version of them, at least.
Which archetype would that fit under? (See "The Twelve Faces of Jason" entry from earlier this week.) God, I hope it's not The Saboteur in disguise! Ugh, it probably is. Damn him! I'll sick The Pioneer on his ass. I can just hear Mr. P now. "We're breaking new ground here, child. Get out the way!"
But oh how I love these songs! And it's not like these gals look back in anger or in sadness or with regret. They just... look back. I love those spaces. My memories are like warm blankets. And if they're not, I have to deal with them and work through them until they become that for me.
But then, I suppose if you're constantly looking in the rear view mirror, you're gonna smash into something sooner or later.
Anyway, just a reminder that Stevie's CD/DVD collection, Crystal Visions... The Very Best of Stevie Nicks, comes out today, sentimental tracks aplenty! Her bouts of nostalgia run rampant in "Silver Springs," "Landslide," "Planets of the Universe," "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You?" and "Blue Denim."
If you missed Stevie's interview on CBS Sunday Morning, here's the segment in full.

Nothing wrong in being sentimental. I always wear my heart on my sleeve.
