Must Stop Head From Pounding

Okay, I am officially not young anymore.

Keith, despite being so much smaller than me, drank me under the table last night. He's younger than me, he's shorter than me, he's thinner than me and he drinks twice as much as I do. And holds it!

It's 5:30 am and I am nursing a Diet Coke in an attempt to stop the tightness of my brain.

Let's talk about Monday nights in West Hollywood. Deadest night of the week, right? Well, if you have to go out, may I suggest hitting up The Abbey? It is unlike any other night during the week at that bar. There's actually a decent amount of people there without it being "busy." Everyone is sitting, either at a table, booth or bar. None of the usual standing around "mingling" about. And there's live music! Like two fantastic black men by the fireplace strumming their guitars and singing standards like "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" and "The Shadow of Your Smile." It is like a modern-day version of what those chill clubs in the 60's were. So relaxed and such a completely different group of people than the usual "boys looking to get laid" too if you're seeking something more mature and substantial.

I was impressed and will be back!

Drinking less.

Jason, I think you're upsetting those who are older than you, lol. (I talk the same thing too, so you're not the only one.) But frankly, young/youth isn't really defined based on how much you can drink, how long you can bang, how long you can do exercise...blah blah. It depends on your attitude and personality.

You can still be young when you're 50 because you've been embracing this fun and creative world with charming attitude/personality, and you know how to keep yourself young.

ps. Abbey will now be on my list of the recommendations in WeHo.

back to work....

jimyvr, thanks, I am 52 and you are right. I have always thought of myself as a kid. Growing up is over rated. My youngest son came home to visit for a couple of weeks during which I was to teach him to drive,....on a standard transmission car. Yesterday, we went in to for his test and he now carries a Texas drivers license. Scarry but that is not the worst part. This morning I put him on a plane to go back to Germany where he is stationed in the US Army. Now I think of my youngest son on the German autobahns. Sometimes it is hard to keep being a kid but I am highly skilled.

That club does sound so cool. Not crowded. Easy guitar music. I can feel the peace. Thanks for sharing that. It is not a sign of getting old but of finding somthing else in life that is so cool you have to share it.

Jason, you asked me to let you know when I would be in the area. I will arrive in San Diego midday, 6 September. I will be leaving mid morning 17 September. DeWayne and I will be a little occupied on the evening of the 6th and 16 but hope to see you sometime between. I will be watching your calander. Keep in touch.

Love from Texas, Albert

Raise your glass and toast all those younger, shorter, thinner, smaller guys who can hold their liquor (because their time will come to nurse a Diet Coke like we do DAMNIT!).

I would have enjoyed Monday's at the Abbey--have not found that in Seattle yet.

Jimmy - I agree completely! I think I may have mentioned in the blog a couple months back, since coming home from the "winter tour," I see this town with the eyes of an 18 year old. There is a great line from Jewel in one of her songs that says: "Innocence can't be lost. It just needs to be maintained." xo L, J.

Albert - Agreed on all counts! And please do! Hope to see you guys when you're in the area. How incredibly sad that your son is stationed so far from you in this tragic war. You must be so proud of his bravery and selflessness though. You obviously did a great job raising him! ;-) xo L, J.

Jon - I didn't know we even had anything like that HERE! I do hear that Boulevard is starting a piano bar night on Tuesdays though and I'm looking forward to that. Should be kick ass. I'm all about those kind of things. haha... xo L, J.
