"X" Meets Roman & Sam

Another great X Show at RAGE last Tuesday night despite some technical difficulties delaying the show even more than usual! One of our best stage hands, Greg, was setting up the mirror for the video screen projector when it fell on his head and cut him badly. Thankfully he wasn't too hurt and even continued working with a towel and ice on his head, but it was a scare for us and set us all back a bit.

My guests were Roman Heart and Sam Phillips. Roman was running late and Sam needed to leave early so we threw Sam up first where even I learned a few things I didn't know about her! As it turns out, she was paid only $200.00 an episode for the Showtime series, Hot Springs Hotel, and each episode was shot over the course of two days. "But at the time, dude," she says, "I couldn't pay people to give me a lead in a series."

The interview started a little rocky for me because I wasn't sure how much a gay nightclub crowd wanted to hear about how one of the members of Duran Duran liked going down on her when she was on her period. She even went so far as to describe how he would twirl the string around with his tongue! Oh well, most of the audience still seemed enthralled, even if a bit grossed out.

Sam started as the Jordache girl in mainstream modeling and says she went nude for Penthouse when she got her implants. "Honestly, I just wanted to show them off!" she laughed. Prior to that, she claims she was boyish with dark hair and a flat chest, much like the Sam Phillips you see as the star of Phantasm II. "Cult hit," she says. "A lot of gay guys like that movie because a lot of gay guys like horror films!" Indeed there were a few people in the audience who knew of her from the flick.

She also talked about her days hosting NBC's Men Are From Mars/Women Are From Venus and the PAX Network's Extreme Fakeovers, as well as her current syndicated talk radio show, The Single Life, on 97.1 FM in Los Angeles.

But it was a game of word association that had the audience rolling! As I knew Sam has had friendly and often "more than friendly" and sometimes "not so friendly" associations with celebrities, ala her comments on The Howard Stern Show, I decided to throw out a few names. The rule was she had no time to think. She had to blurt out the first thing that popped into her head. Among the best were Kevin Costner - "27 whores!," Warren Beatty - "Ew. Drippy dick!" and Pam Anderson - "Best friend ever. Used to be my roommate actually!"

Roman Heart was looking quite dapper and handsome, dressed to the nines and accompanied by his own posse of non-porn friends. I finally got down to the truth behind a few rumors, the first of which was the myth (that I perpetuated) that he started performing porn while he was still in high school. "No," he says, "I did start performing when I was 18 and I did start performing while I was still going to school in Seattle. But I graduated a year early from high school."

He talked a bit about his ex-boyfriend, Benjamin Bradley, much to my delight and how he was responsible for bringing him into the gay porn scene. Though he says the two were very much in love, the reason for the breakup was not quite as dramatic as rumors may have made it out to be. "It had a lot to do with the travel involved in our lives," he said, "not getting to spend a lot of time together. And I think there were a lot of trust issues from that too." I asked him if it was difficult to be in the same room with him at porn events and he said, "Honestly, it doesn't happen that often. I don't see him much at all anymore."

Heart said he was "sort of" seeing someone at the moment, but choose not to go into details.

I also asked him about his much rumored romance with fellow Falcon Studios exclusive Erik Rhodes. "He's my travelling buddy," he says. "Yeah we've had sex, but probably only three times." When I asked him if he'd fisted Erik, he asked, "Is there anyone who hasn't?"

I mentioned that one of the bartenders at Micky's, Brad, had been spreading a rumor that he and his boyfriend both double penetrated Roman Heart. "Nope," he said, taking it all in stride. "I don't even know who that is. I've only been double penetrated once. At White Party."

He said his favorite thing about the business is the travel, his favorite scene so far is his Falcon debut with Brent Everett in Super Soaked and when someone asked what else he would want to do for a living, he said, "I don't considering this 'a living,' this is just fun."

On that note, immediately after the show had wrapped, Roman came up to me and said, "It went by so fast. I wanted to tell you something else on stage, but you can write about it if you want." He then proceeded to tell me that he wasn't interested in shooting any more movies and was looking forward to retirement from the gay porn scene. "I don't know if my contract will let me do that right away," he said, "but it is something I'm planning on in the near future."
