Madonna - Express Yourself

The Blonde Ambition Tour, 1990 - When the song was at its peak of radio popularity, Madonna opened her tour with this song each night in a set that resembled that of the song's music video, a theme inspired by the silent film, Metropolis.
The Girlie Show Tour, 1993 - During the Madonna "sex and erotica" backlash, she used the song here to "Explain Herself," paying homage to the sexually expressive and female empowering days of the 1970's.
The Re-Invention Tour, 2004 - Madonna didn't perform the song live again until over 10 years later! One of the songs cut from the release of her tour documentary, this is a rare look at "Express Yourself" from this tour as she points the song to the times saying communication ("expression") is the answer, not war.

I think the original is still just classic. That "Metropolis" set for Blonde Ambition was off the hook. The entrance is like one of the most memorable in history, the dancing is impeccable, the outfits are instantly recognizable.
It looks amusing to sing that tune in military outfit.
by the way, for some reason I 'm unable to identify the most outstanding pop song (in my view) for 2006.
Jimmy - Maybe because the pop music scene is such a fucking abomination these days. So sad. xo L, J.
Here's my list since 2001...
2001 Kylie - Can't Get you Out Of My Head
2002 Sophie Ellis-Bexter - Get Over You
2003 Kylie - Slow
2004 Kylie - I Believe In You
2005 Madonna - Hung Up
2006 ??? (Nelly Furtado's "Maneater" or Justin's "Sexyback" or Scissor Sisters or Infernal were the candidates but none of them still have the beat or impact to make it as big as Madge or Kylie)
And I raised this point earlier in the other chat room...if you don't mix something with R&B/Hip-hop, your album won't sell. sad. oh well.. hopefully Kylie comes up with something big in 2007.
Jimmy - You're absolutely right. It's all about giving into the R&B scene. Have you heard Gwen's new song? She barely sings on the entire album. All rapping. Awful. xo L, J.
I love the staging and choreography and overall performance of the Blonde Ambition performance, but I love the 70's disco musical arrangement of the Girlie Show version. And JimmyVR, are you English or Australian?
