Song of the Week: "Back in Business"

Some history behind my theme song of the week.

I remember being 12 years old and going to see the movie Dick Tracy in theaters and falling in love with Madonna as Breathless Mahoney. The song "Back in Business" from Broadway icon Stephen Sondheim is featured in the movie, but NOT with Madonna singing it. When I went to buy the audio cassette tape (remember those?) for Madonna's album, I'm Breathless, I saw the song "Back in Business" was on it and was excited to hear how she would sound singing it. But alas, it was a completely different song she had written that had merely been inspired by Sondheim's version that was featured in the movie.

Fast forward to years later when I'm a big old fag and loving Liza Minnelli. I find a very rare one-time-only performance of our lady with a "Z" singing the original Sondheim hit from Dick Tracy at a tribute concert. And it's hot shit!
